43rd Street Festival

Fourth Ward Alderman Will Burns, Artworks Chicago, the Southeast Chicago Commission, and the University of Chicago’s Office of Civic Engagement present the 43rd Street Festival. Admission is free to this family-oriented event that will feature performances by Joan Collaso, Avain Hightower and Full Circle, Taylor Moore, and more. The event will also feature arts,crafts, food, music, beer garden (for adults), children’s activities, games, rides, and a petting zoo.

POWER UP! Boot Camp for Youth

The Illinois Currency Exchange Charitable Foundation (ICECF) is a nonprofit that works to create and support educational opportunities for disadvantaged Illinois youth. This year they are expanding their operations to include the POWER UP! Boot Camp, which they are running in partnership with the Chicago Park District.
The POWER UP! Boot Camp is a free program that will educate kids about fitness and nutrition through a series of fun work-shops and physical activities.The first session of the Boot Camp is open to 10th-12th graders, who will be trained as Mentorsto help out the 4th-6th graders
participating in the next two Boot Camps. For three months after the program, Mentors will
exchange emails with their kids to support them in reaching their personal fitness and nutritional goals. During this period,kids will also use pedometers to monitor their physical activity online as well as keep a journal. Sign up at www.icecf.org/programs before the September 8th deadline.
