Convenience Store Summit

November 15, 2014
10:00 am

On Saturday Nov. 15th at 10am we will come together to address a problem with some solutions. The term “corner store” has come to define a  grimy, dimly lit, convenience store located in depressed usually minority populated areas of the city selling unhealthy snacks to our babies. They have also become a symbol for what is wrong from a public health standpoint in minority communities. Furthermore, there has been a great deal of racial/cultural tension and misunderstanding resulting from the current paradigm. The current situation is unsustainable and cannot be allowed to continue.

Therefore, Centers for New Horizons/ Bronzeville Alliance will host a meeting, inviting Store operators and community residents, to introduce a new model based upon partnership and common self interest. They will come together to establish a stronger relationship by lifting up where our common interests exist, and how we, by working together can offer tangible resources that will help what we want to start now calling “convenience stores” to meet new market and environmental challenges. For questions, please call Johnnie Owens at Centers For New Horizons (o) 773-373-5700 or (m) 708.522.8275.
