Buckthorn Park Expansion Community Meeting

After several months of collecting input from community members through outreach and previous community meetings, the Chicago Park District is ready to unveil its final draft of the expansion plans for Buckthorn Park. The Chicago Park District and Alderman Dowell are proposing a $1.2 million expansion of the small park at 4347 S. Calumet Ave. that will be renamed for Hadiya Pendleton who is the King College Prep student killed by gunfire in 2013 a few blocks away from the expansion site.

Alderman Dowell and representatives from the Chicago Park District will be on hand to answer any questions and listen to any concerns community members may have. This is part of an ongoing effort to make sure the park’s expansion meets the needs of the community.

First Annual Winterfest

The Bronzeville Retail Initiative’s (BRI) first annual Winterfest is here! The goal of BRI is to facilitate development of vibrant, walkable, retail corridors that builds on Bronzeville’s rich retail and entertainment history, while serving the needs of modern-day residents and destination shoppers, and providing local employment and ownership opportunities. To support all the local craftsman, BRI along with (TRC) The Renaissance Collaborative have decided to open the Historic Wabash Y building to vendors. This will be a free, one day event for the community where you will get a chance to sell your goods or services.

Morgan Shoal Public Meeting

The Chicago Park District would like to invite you to participate in a planning of shoreline protection, and park improvement along the lakefront, between 45st and 51st street, also known as Morgan Shoal.  The goal of this meeting is to provide an overview of the project and to collect input from the community to inform us as we move the park’s design and recreation features.
