Disaster Declaration for July 13-16th Storms

This past Friday, September 20th, President Joe Biden declared a major disaster for Cook County (including the City of Chicago) due to the severe storms, tornados, and derecho damage from July 13-16, 2024. This declaration means that residents impacted by these storms will be eligible for Federal individual financial assistance through FEMA as well as other programs offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas (counties shaded green in the map above) can immediately begin applying for assistance: (1) at www.disasterassistance.gov; (2) by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362); or (3) by using the FEMA App.

Make sure you have contacted your insurance company first.

• You can still apply if you are underinsured or have no insurance.

• Keep and save all your documentation, including receipts of any repairs due to damage.
