Below please find a statement from Alderman Dowell alerting the community to the emergency demolition of the former E2 Nightclub at 2347 S. Michigan Ave.

Emergency Demolition of Former E2 Nightclub

It is my responsibility as Alderman of the 3rd Ward to prioritize the safety and well-being of our residents. After a thorough assessment by the Department of Buildings, the difficult decision has been determined to demolish the vacant and landmarked building at 2347 S. Michigan Ave., know as the former E2 Nightclub, due to its significant structural risks, which include:

1. Failure of the bow truss roof system

2. Portions of the roof has collapsed

3. Roof joists are water saturated

4. Three feet of standing water in partial basement, northeast corner of the property

5. Open elevator shaft

I recognize the profound emotional impact this has, particularly for those affected by the E2 tragedy. In response, my office is committed to working closely with survivors and the families of victims to develop a respectful memorial that honors their lives and contributions. Together, we can create a space for remembrance that not only acknowledges the past but also promotes healing and unity within our community.
